Segway Company Owner Drives Segway Off Cliff

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

In one of those ironic twists of fate that prove that truth is indeed stranger than fiction, one of the current owners of Segway, Inc. was reported to have died on September 27 after driving a Segway over a cliff and falling 30 feet into the River Wharfe in West Yorkshire, U.K.  Jimi Heselden, a British millionaire,  was part of a group that purchased Segway in early 2010.

Since their introduction in 2002, the two-wheeled upright vehicles have never quite lived up to the early buzz they generated (Steve Jobs was quoted as saying the Segway would be as big as the PC).  However, Segways have gained popularity in niche markets such as police departments, corporate campuses and golf courses.

The new Sansa Fuze+ features a sleeker silhouette and larger 2.4-inch screen. Although it doesn’t include a touchscreen, it does have a new front touch panel in place of the click wheel found on earlier models (though many reviewers of the Fuze+ prefer the click wheel).

The Sansa Fuze+ also includes an FM radio, recording capability, a microSD slot and support for a wide range of digital sound formats. The Sansa Fuze+ retails for about $80. Read more about the Fuze+ at the SansaDisk website.
